To elaborate slightly on Maso's explanation, /cast X will TOGGLE the ability (like autoshot, autoattack, Heroic strike, Rune Strike, autowand, druid forms) so that hitting it twice will turn on, then immediately turn off your auto shot.

/cast Cat Form will turn your druid into a cat, then pressing it again will turn you into caster form again, while /cast !Cat Form will turn you into a cat, and then... nothing.

I also have picked up a hunter recently (74, now 76) to play with a friend, and I came into it feeling very frustrated, doing poor damage, not remembering which CDs I have to watch and which abilities to use in tight situation. After watching the hunter videos someone linked to your last post, and stealing a number of macros relevant to a leveling hunter, I found myself doing much more damage right away.

Another thing I've noticed is that in groups with replenishment, a spare BoW or mana totem, I do MUCh higher dps than grinding endlessly, where I have to utilize AotV constantly.

If you haven't visited it, the EJ hunter dps guide is the place to go for look at the foundation. http://elitistjerks.com/f47/t43271-hunter_pve_dps_wotlk_updated_3_2_2_a/

The exclamation causes it to not cast if its already active- thus ensuring that you don't turn off auto attack by executing the macro again. Without it, you would be toggling Auto Shot each time you pressed that macro. The next ability fires immediately because no ability above it causes a global cooldown. The exclamation won't modify that behavior.

And the fact that I understand 0.01% of that post confirms my suspicion that I quit WoW too long ago, and that I wouldn't recognize it anymore. :P (I've been playing Aion for 7 months but it's starting to lose its' appeal, especially since it's buggier than WoW pre-BC.) Good read though, Kev, cheers man!

Wow thanks for that, I'm definitely going to try the Addon Studio out when I get a chance.

I'm an eclipse using java programmer by day so I really missed intellisense when I tried to code LUA in notepad++.

/cast [nopet]Call Pet;[modifier][target=pet,dead]Revive Pet
/clearfocus [target=focus,dead]
/focus [target=focus,exists] player;[target=mouseover]target
/clearfocus [target=focus,noharm]
/petattack [target=focus,exists]
/petfollow [target=focus,noexists]

I use this macro for pet control (it's old but still functions, as I haven't changed 'target=' tot he '@' command). In order, it will call your pet if they are not present, or rez them if they are dead (their corpse must be nearby, sadly. If it's not, use a modifier to rez). Then it gets fancy. From here, it functions as a pet attack/return macro on mouseover. Mouse over a target, hit the macro, and your focus is set to the mouseover target and pet goes in to attack. Hit the macro again, focus is cleared and the pet returns to you. Only possible downside is that if your pet has a target/focus already and you want to send him to a new mouseover target, you'll have to double-tap the macro.

Pet control and proper trapping are two good ways to distinguish oneself from the stereotypical 'huntards' out there.

I guess thats where I was going wrong. I would put him on defensive so he would attack whenever I would attack. I guess I need to use passive and macro that into my other attacks.

I still need to set up macros so I may have to do that before my next instance run.

Put your pet on passive in instances, that way it will only attack when you command it to.

I leveled a paladin very quickly as retribution with BOA gear, doing mostly random dungeon runs. By level 79 I was doing approximately 2k dps, so I felt pretty good about my abilities as a ret pally and when I hit 80 I bought some BOE lvl 200 epics, including a Titanium Destroyer to replace my BOA Arcanite Reaper, and queued up for some heroics.

Suddenly, I was doing 500 dps and couldn't figure out why... Oh yeah! My 2H mace skill was 0! I was quickly called out by the group, and I explained my stupidity in using my brand new weapon that I had no skill in (I had banked my BOA weapon to save bag space, too, so no fall back). I begged for a bit of patience, which was granted, and by the end of the instance I was doing about 1.1k dps while still at only 240 or skill in maces.

It was definitely a different experience, suddenly being on of "the bads" that was getting carried. I was very grateful to the group for not instantly booting me, can't say I would have been as lenient in the same situation...
